Pastoral Assistant (FT), Charlestown Catholic Collaborative, Charlestown, MA
St. Mary - St. Catherine of Siena, and St. Francis de Sales of Charlestown is actively seeking a fulltime Pastoral Assistant. In close collaboration with the Pastor, this individual will have the exciting opportunity to help shape the overall vision for evangelization and faith formation and create opportunities for parishioners of all ages to encounter Christ, grow in faith, and live out their call to evangelize. This is a mission-driven position for someone with a love for Christ and the Catholic faith, a love for people, and the organizational and pastoral skills to guide and inspire others in ministry. The pastoral assistant will primarily accompany adults in their walks of faith including, but not limited to, wedding preparation (training provided), baptismal preparation, OCIA, adult confirmation, pastoral care, and social outreach. In addition, the pastoral assistant will oversee the parishes’ small faith formation program for children.
This is a full-time, benefits eligible position and will report to the Pastor on site at the parish in Charlestown.
Responsibilities:
Provides leadership, support, and oversight to all parish ministries and programs
Collaborates with parish leadership to identify needs and create new ministry opportunities
Recruits, forms, and supports volunteers in their ministry roles
Accompanies adults and families for the sacraments including wedding day preparation, baptismal preparation, OCIA, and adult confirmation
Organizes parish-wide spiritual, educational, and formational opportunities (e.g., Bible studies, parish missions, service initiatives)
Maintains a visible and welcoming presence at parish events, weekend liturgies, and social gatherings
Oversees the parishes’ small faith formation program for children
Demonstrates an interest in the initiation of new members in the parish community and in the process of evangelization and renewal
Serves on the Parish Council, as an ex-officio member
Ensures compliance with Archdiocesan safe environment protocols (Protecting God’s Children, CORI, Code of Conduct)
Develops and manages ministry budgets in collaboration with the Pastor and Finance staff
Maintains relationships with Archdiocesan offices and stay current with policies, procedures, and best practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in theology, Pastoral Ministry, or related field strongly preferred
Practicing Catholic in good standing with a love for the Church and commitment to its mission
Strong leadership, collaborative, and group processing skills
Excellent communication skills — both written and oral
Creative, collaborative, and relational — able to inspire and lead volunteers of all ages
Familiarity with the evangelization and contemporary approaches to ministry and outreach
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as parish life requires
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. for event setup needs
