Archbishop Henning today shared the below message and prayer on this 24th anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the United States:
Today we remember the lives lost and the heartache and suffering of survivors, first responders, and the bereaved due to the attacks on 9/11/2001. It is striking to think next year we will recognize twenty-five years since those painful days and the years since have seen further suffering and loss in warfare and in illnesses of too many survivors and recovery workers. Of course, we also have seen the best of people coming together then and in the intervening years to help, strengthen, and comfort one another. It is that truth of goodness and love that we find in the Lord’s cross. Pope Leo XIV said recently, "He can heal us, he can revive us. Jesus is our hope!"
Lord, we entrust to you all those lost on 9/11 and those who have suffered in the years since. We ask Your healing for those who still suffer physical ailments and wounded hearts. May Your peace reign in our hearts and in our world. Amen.
