"Today we commemorate a great Saint who found his hope and faith in the depths of suffering and despair. Kidnapped, enslaved, and carried away from home and family. Young Patrick learned to listen to God in the whisper of the breeze. Thus began a story of liberation and renewal that brought a people to faith and changed the course of history. With faith in God and love for the people of Ireland, Patrick returned to those who had enslaved him and gave himself freely and completely to their service.
Here in Boston and across the United States, we also remember and celebrate the Irish people who came to our shore bearing their faith and their commitment to family and community. It is a grand heritage and one worth celebrating. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!"
